Blog #3 Body Language
When it comes to athletic clothing every person has their "go-to" outfit or look. For me, when I go to the gym I like to wear a pair of shorts that are flexible and above the knee. I will wear either a dri-fit t-shirt or tank top and a pair of Nike shoes. No matter the gender, anyone who is active and exercises has a specific thing that they feel comfortable in while doing their exercise.
This add consists of four women outside of what looks like a super mall or shopping center. The ad focuses in on one female in the picture. The athlete is wearing a yellow tank top and a pair of grey and yellow leggings. The ad says "For Running Not Running Errands". The slogan really caught my attention because it states that women should be treated equal in the sports world. This to me means that women around the world can do whatever they want on the sports field, in the gym, or on the court.
The main goal of this advertisement is to give women the sense of power. Like some of the films we have watched in class, women use to play a different role in society. A lot of men felt that they were supposed to cook, clean, and take care of the kids. This message does a good job of catching the viewer's eye, but the smaller writing under the main slogan draws some attention. They use the word real when describing the women they want wearing their product. 'Real women' could come off as a negative thing to some people. The advertisement overall is productive and powerful, but some people might take this the wrong way due to the fact 'real women' may upset some.
Finally, leggings are a uni sexual piece of clothing. I've worn them before and my girlfriend wears them almost everyday. Leggings won't make you run faster or jump higher, but I know if a girl is wearing them, especially in the gym, she's not messing around!
