This particular waist trainer is called "Hot Shapers with Waist Trainer." It's use is essentially for women's tummy trimming and the girdle is for weight loss, control of stomach for workouts, slimming and shaping and enhances sweat. This waist trainer is rated with four stars which to potential buyers is a good thing because that means its good quality and it has a high chance of getting the women the look they're desiring to have. In the description it discusses how the design was created with women in mind. Meaning it's sole purpose is to benefit women who are seeking to have a slimmer waist instantly. It also describes what areas you will expect results in which consist of making the woman's body a more sleek feminine figure. There were 30 women that tested the Neotex Sweat fabric and after eight weeks of physical activity and non stop usage they received the following results: Increased sweat, weight loss, calories burned, improved appearance of cellulite, reduced waist circumference, tighter skin and general well-being. In my opinion waist trainers in some cases are made for women to live up to societies ideal image of how a woman should look. As I mentioned in class when going over the parts of a woman that the average person would think attracts the male figure when discussing the appearance of a woman, it is in fact the glass figured like shape of their bodies is most attractive. In a way this forces women to live up to that and if you don't it makes it seem as if you are less of a woman because they don't buy these waist trainers to make themselves meet the society's expectations. In the Qualifying Times reading, Schultz states, "In 1978 Time reported that the female athlete is acquiring a new sense of self, and of self- confidence in her physical abilities and her potential, (pg 125)." With this line of dialogue, it makes me think of how the waist trainer can also be a way of getting women to have self confidence in the way they both look and feel about their physical appearance. On the contrary, it places a different outlook on the women who aren't looking to change their physical appearance and how that may downplay the shape they are currently in. It also makes me think of how in a sense is saying how you have to be a certain way in order to play certain sports which is unfair. Schultz states, "As a comely by product of the fitness phenomenon women have begun literally to reshape themselves, and with themselves, the American notion of female beauty, (pg 126)." The society has a way of choosing what is considered to be beautiful when all actuality everyone is beautiful in their own unique way. Thus, no matter how big, small, round, thin, dark or light you are anyone has the potential to be good at a sport regardless of how they look.
